An extremely rare astronomical phenomenon, "Black Moon" will occur on Friday night or Saturday morning. Though the exact significance of this lunar event is unknown to many, the conspiracy theorists believe that this event will mark the destruction of planet Earth.

According to conspiracy theorists, the Armageddon will come. What has raised their concern is the solar eclipse on Sept. 1 which had a "ring of fire" above Africa.  This was the result of the moon lining up with Earth and the Sun. And, with the black moon set to appear within a short time span, the conspiracy theorists fear that the end of the world is nearing, Morning Ledger reported. Notably, this theory is based on the Bible's reference to the sun, the moon, and the stars.

The social media is also abuzz with another story that claims that the black moon is a sign of Jesus Christ's return to Earth.

Researchers, however, suggest that the black moon does not indicate that the world will end. Rather, it is a natural lunar phenomenon which occurs approximately every 32 weeks. The previous black moon occurred in March 2014 and the next one is expected to appear in 2019, reports Space.com.

It is the growing popularity of people naming moons, that this lunar phenomenon got its name as "black moon" after the blue moon, blood moon, and supermoons. However, the name is not derived from the color of the moon but is based on the time of the year that it appears.

In general, black moon refers to the moon which has its illuminated side caught on the Earth's shadow. And, it is the second new moon in a calendar month.

Coming to viewing the black moon, it is will be visible to people over of Western Hemisphere that includes North and South America along with western part of Europe. The Eastern Hemisphere, which includes Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa, will witness the black moon on Oct. 1.
