Twitter has been receiving a considerable number of information requests from governments. This could be in relation to a series of world attacks which made the government legal officials around the world to turn to social media to seek information.

The latest transparency report from Twitter intends to assist users to be knowledgeable about government information requests, tweet removal requests and intellectual property requests. But with the world terrorist attacks highly increasing, government information requests are surging, according to the latest report.

Qz reported that compared to the previous year, legal officials from governments around the world had seek information for 3% more accounts for the first six months of this year. Extremists like the ISIL have reportedly been using Twitter as a tool to find and recruit new members and so officials wanted to identify them.
From the latest report from Twitter, the United States made 8,009 government information requests from the company between the months of January and June of 2016 and leads the chart with 44% of the total.
Japan came in second of the countries that made the most number of information requests. Twitter reported that Japan had requested information for 988 accounts, regardless of the country being named as one of the safest. This is by far the highest number of request made by Japan. According to Japan Times, the Group of Seven summit held last May might be one of the reason for the county's surge in information requests as it was keeping high alert on the event.

France also made it to the chart of the highest information request of countries, mainly because it had been bombarded with terrorist attacks last year and this year, including the November 2015 Paris attacks, the single deadliest terrorist attack in French history, which claimed responsible by the ISIS.
