To get by in the long wait for Rick and Morty Season 3, fans started formulating some interesting theories about the third installment which earlier reports hinted to take a darker and bolder turn.
As per the report of Parent Herald, fans theorize that Rick Sanchez and Mr. Poopybutthole might be aware of their true nature and existence. That is, merely an entertainment subject in Adult Swim show. This speculation stemmed out from near-death experiences of the two that allowed them to breach the fourth wall and, as a result, learned about their surroundings.
The same report noted that Rick and Mr. Poopybuttholes are the only characters of Rick and Morty Season 3 that are aware of being a character of a show. Their breakthroughs were attributed to incidences wherein Mr. Poopybutthole was shot by Beth, and Rick almost died. The story of Rick's near-death experience is, however, yet to be told in Rick and Morty Season 3.
Upon stumbling into this knowledge, Rick, however, would keep this upon himself in an effort to shield his friends Morty Smith, Summer, Beth, and Jerry from this heartbreaking fact.
Many fans are also speculating about the release date of Rick and Morty Season 3. Ecumenical News reported that the third season might possibly premiere sometime in March 2017. This speculation stemmed from Mr. Poopybutthole's announcement in the finale of Rick and Morty Season 2 that the next installment "will be due after a year-and-a-half of waiting."
In another speculation, however,t he media outlet stated that creator Dan Harmon revealed earlier this year that new episodes might come sooner than the expected premiere date. If this is true, the third season would start airing by the end of 2016.
