The United Nations opened the 71st session of its general assembly on Tuesday at UN Headquarters in New York, with the leaders from over 30-member countries speaking before the session.

Among those wo attended were French President Francois Hollande, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Jordanian King Abdullah, Egyptian President Abdul Fatah al-Sisi, and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

The significant event is scheduled to run until Monday next week.

Part of the convention was the discussion on the Paris Agreement, which deals with ways on how to curtail global warming by means of nationally determined strategies to limit emissions.

According to Scientific American, outgoing UN General Ban Ki-moon urged his fellow leaders to push for the implementation of the Paris Agreement, if possible before the end of this year.

The agreement will take effect when it will finally be adopted by the 55 member countries, which have the 55 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. It was also noted that Japan and Canada are set to ratify the deal this year.

It can be recalled that UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie urged the world leaders to evaluate the laws that provide humanitarian aids to refugees. Brought by this need and demand, new approaches in implementing the humanitarian aids for the refugees were also taken into priority in the said convention.

Theresa May, Britain's Prime Minister mentioned in her speech that the existing UN refugee Convention which was created in 1951 should still remain as the foundation for the new approach that they must be proposing.
