A teacher from Fairfield, Oh. was recently suspended for allegedly making a racially insensitive comment towards an African-American student, The Dayton Daily News reports.

Gil Voigt was suspended without pay from Fairfield Freshman High School, where he currently faces termination, for a remark he made towards an African-American student on Dec. 3. The student had expressed interest in becoming the president one day, and Voigt reportedly said in response, "We don't need another black president."

"He was talking to some students and said some things that were racially insensitive. We take diversity in our school district very seriously with tolerance of people who are different. We just felt this teacher had crossed the line," Superintendent Paul Otten told the Dayton Daily News.

After the student complained and four others confirmed the story, the student was taken out of the class at his parent's request. Voigt says he was misquoted and claims that the student had caused trouble in class that day.

This isn't the first time that Voigt has been under fire from the school board for his offensive remarks. Back in 2012, he called a student "stupid" and received a verbal warning, and in 2008 he made an innapropriate racial comment and got in trouble for improperly using school technology, according to Cincinnati.com. Last month, he also received a written warning for failing to follow the "adopted curriculum."
