Sony just announced the all-new Playstation 4 (PS4) Pro this week, just days before the annual E3 Conference. Introduced as a complement to the current PS4, the electronics giant plans to market the Pro version to gamers who prefer a higher-end gaming experience.

Priced at US$ 399, the PS4 Pro is set to launch on Nov. 10 this year. The new console, while technically not a successor to the PS4 as speculated, enables gamers to experience gaming in high-fidelity 4K and HD quality without compromising compatibility with existing games on Sony's gaming flagship.

Improving visual fidelity is the key to Sony's decision to make the PS4 Pro. Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) President and Group CEO Andrew House said in the Playstation Meeting event that the company seeks "to provide developers with tools to further their visions."

Mark Cerny, SCE's lead architect for the PS4 Pro project, said that Sony aims to "take the PS4 experience to extraordinary new levels" by delivering "high-fidelity graphical experiences" to gamers. The new console performs better than the PS4 and has higher-tier specifications.

Boasting impressive improvements to the PS4's architecture, the PS4 Pro has the following hardware specifications: 1 TB hard drive space, AMD Polaris-technology graphics, and two times the regular console's GPU power.

Apart from powerful hardware, the PS4 Pro scores high in practicality through its backward compatibility with all PS4 games. However, Sony said that the new console won't be able to play 4K Blu-Ray discs - a little hitch in an otherwise impressive upgrade for the best-selling PS4.

Among the games trialed on the PS4 Pro during the event are Watch Dogs 2 and For Honor, which was met with positive reception for superb graphics quality. Activision also announced that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Black Ops III will be released on the new console.
