Apple's website will start taking pre-orders online on Sept. 9 while the company will begin shipping units on Sept. 16.

If you want to have your new iPhone as soon as possible, you will have to be in your computer as soon as the presale goes live. In 2015, the presale started at 12:01 a.m. PST.

You don't want to be late. Remember that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S went sold out in the U.S. and worldwide as soon as Apple started taking pre-orders online.

Last year, Apple activated a "Get ready to pre-order" tab. Whether this option will be offered this year is unclear. But even if it does, you'll want to take some steps ahead of time to ensure you're ready for the rush.

"Get ready to pre-order" tab allows you to store account details so you could speed through checkout when Apple actually went live to take pre-orders. So it pays to check and refresh your browser as the presale deadline draws nearer.

The iPhone 7 will start with 32GB of storage for $649 (a long awaited upgrade from the 16GB that used to be in the base model) and goes up to 256GB for $849. The larger iPhone 7 Plus is actually more expensive than its predecessor, starting at $769 for the 32GB version and go up to $969 for the top model.
