Facebook Chat Pro offers users a customize option that enables one to control their 'last seen', change sound options and other notification pop-ups.

After facing tough competition in the messenger and chatting market, Facebook is well aware that it needs to step up its game if it's looking to retain its users. Therefore, the social networking giant has offered its users a new Facebook Chat Pro extension that can be downloaded through the Chrome web browser.

The Pro version of the messenger has a setting similar to that of Facebook Privacy, where you can control your 'last seen' (when others can see if you've seen a chat), change sound options and other notification pop-ups.

The software can be installed with a Chrome extension. Once installed, Facebook Chat Pro's icon will appear in the toolbar which allows users to disable notifications for 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes with a click. The Chrome extension has many other options. Users can prevent friends from seeing when the user has viewed a message, disable the "[Your name] is typing" message when you are writing, and apply a noir style with typewriter sounds, according to LifeHacker.com.

Facebook has time and again emphasized on the importance of user privacy. However, they also make it a point to keep track of everything users do on the social networking site.

In an older news report, Daily Mail reported that Facebook tracks everything a user types on the site, even if he doesn't land up posting it. Facebook can't track the exact keys pressed, and it doesn't monitor keystrokes. This means the code doesn't reveal what is being typed. However, Facebook can track when characters and words are typed, how many are typed, and if the typed characters are deleted or abandoned.

Users can download the Facebook Chat Pro from Chrome Web Store for free.
