A federal court in Alexandria, Virginia issued the verdict after the 44-year-old Marcel Lazar pleaded guilty to the charges, including unauthorized access to a protected computer and aggravated identity theft.

A Reuters report disclosed that Lazar, known for his online alias as "Guccifer" may have hacked into the email accounts of about 100 victims from 2012 to 2014, including the server Clinton at her home in New York.

The report also enumerated that "Guccifer" breached into the accounts of several prominent personalities in the U.S. including former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a relative of former President George W. Bush and Sidney Blumenthal - a former aide of Clinton at the White House.

U.S. authorities began tracking "Guccifer" after he breached into the server of the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in June.

He was arrested in Arad town, some 550 km from Bucharest, in January 2014. He was extradited from Romania to face charges in the U.S.

He first rose to prominence in the U.S. after he hacked into email accounts belonging to George W. Bush and made public some of the former president's own paintings, including bath-time self-portraits.
