After a series of rumors alleging that one of its employees unintentionally revealed the release of "The Last of Us 2," Naughty Dog's creative director and programmer Neil Druckmann affirmed that the development of a new sequel is still on hold and may start as soon as they finish doing the Uncharted 4 DLC.

It can be remembered that the first installment of the "The Last of Us" was launched way back in 2013. It eventually dominated the charts in Ireland, United States, United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Norway, Japan, Spain and Finland.

The popularity of the series somehow explained the reason why fans are patiently waiting for another sequel.

According to reports, fans started to speculate on the potential release date of the game after Nolan North, one of the voice actors hinted that "The Last Of Us 2" will happen.

Frag Hero also reported that during a livestream where Naughty Dog's Josh Scherr, Eric Baldwin and Eric Monacelli were engaged in a discussion regarding "The Last Of Us," Scherr unintentionally revealed some details about the upcoming game saying "All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric, here . . . and [on] the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?".

A lot of publications however believed that Scherr intentionally provide such statement in order to condition the minds of fans to demand for more information. Besides, Naughty Dog's Michael Knowland revealed that he has been working on "The Last Of Us 2" for quite a while on his LinkedIn account.
