Chelsea confirmed the permanent move in a statement: "Chelsea Football Club and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed terms for the transfer of David Luiz back to London...The move is now subject to him agreeing personal terms and passing a medical."

A fan favorite at the Bridge, Luiz is set for an emotional return to the London club on deadline day Tuesday, having expressed his unsettlement in PSG. The defender doesn't see Chelsea's lack of Champions League action as a factor for his move.

Having a popular reputation among Chelsea fans, Luiz has been widely regarded as a hero for playing through pain in Chelsea's 2012 Champions League win. His heroics, alongside his colorful character and gaudy presence on the pitch, earned him widespread reputation among the Stamford Bridge faithful.

Signed by Chelsea from Benfica in 2011 for £21m, Luiz enjoyed a fruitful first spell with the Blues, with 12 goals under his name in his 143 matches. His eventual decision to transfer to PSG came after ex-manager Jose Mourinho opted to use him as a holding midfielder throughout the 2013-14 season.

PSG's move for Luiz in 2014 made him the world's most expensive midfielder. His two years in the French capital wasn't in vain, having won six trophies by winning the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France twice each in his 85 appearances.

Luiz's return follows through Chelsea manager Antonio Conte's plan to look for a center-back, with moves for Roma's Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly having been rejected by their respective clubs. He's now the world's most expensive defender in combined transfer fees.
