Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo was named as the 2016 UEFA Best Player in Europe during the Champions League draw ceremony for season 2016/17.

Ronaldo enjoyed a sensational 2015/16 season, winning the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and the UEFA EURO 2016 with Portugal.

The 31-year-old beat off competition from club-mate Gareth Bale and Atlético Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

"It's a great honor. My teammates are the key - they are the key every year. I work hard myself, but without their help this would not be possible. Thanks to my teammates from Real Madrid and Portugal," he said.

"[Winning EURO] was different because I've won the Champions League three times now. To win something with Portugal was the highlight of my career," he added.

Ronaldo joins Lionel Messi as one of the only players to win the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award twice.
