Thanks to a groundbreaking implementation by the state government of Florida, it is all set to get its first medical marijuana dispensary.

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has given Trulieve, a North Florida grower and dispensary, the approval to set up shop in Tallahassee. Now, it can start delivering cannabis in the entire state. So, when Trulieve begins operations from Tuesday next week, patients with cancer and seizure can finally get access to strains of medical marijuana that is low in THC.

And this is only the beginning. According to DOH, five additional nurseries that are growing and extracting oil from cannabis may also join Trulieve in delivering medically approved marijuana. As for Trulieve, it is planning to open more dispensaries outside Tallahassee as well. CEO Kim Rivers has said that patients can order the drug too and it will be delivered to them within a week.

It is worth mentioning here that patients and their relatives have been fighting a tough battle to get access to medical marijuana as the drug has been found to be effective in cases of cancer and seizures. In the absence of any state law, they had to often resort to illegal means to obtain it. But now that the law, passed by Rick Scott government in 2014, has come into force, it won't be the case.

The new state law allows dispensaries to sell cannabis oil that can be taken as a pill, injected into the body or consumed in any other way except smoking. Patients can access the drug without any hindrance if they have an approval from a doctor who has passed a medical cannabis course.

If one has the approval, one can place an order with any licensed dispensary in the state and the good news is that more sellers are looking to start dispensaries in the state. And therefore, patients and their relatives have all the reasons to celebrate.

What is more, if the government passes a constitutional amendment in this November's election, patients with a wider range of conditions can also gain access to full-strength marijuana.
