It looks like Justin Bieber might not be retiring from music but taking a short break. The 19-year-old singer shocked fans when he announced on Power 106 radio station that he was considering an early retirement.

"Um, I'm actually retiring, man," Bieber said when asked about his new album. "I think I'm probably gonna quit music."

The bombshell revelation shocked everyone from his fans to his management. Even though Bieber said the comment with a straight face many people speculated that he was only joking but when MTV asked the singer if he was pulling a fast one on his fans Bieber said he wasn't really sure.

"I don't know if that's a joke," he said. "I don't know, I don't know."

The "Boyfriend" singer confessed that he wanted to spend some time focusing on his family, namely his sister Jazzy, 5 and his brother, Jaxson, 4.

"I wanna get to know my family more," he told MTV News. "I've been away so much, I've missed a lot of great years with my brother and sister."

That's a great reason for the singer to want to step away from the spotlight but he didn't reveal how long he plans on "retiring." Bieber also said he wants to "figure himself out as a man" in 2014 but promised his fans  - nicknamed Beliebers - that he had "something special" in store for them in the new year.

MTV also asked Bieber's manager Scooter Braun about the retiring comment. He said there is no way the singer is retiring but did say that Bieber will be taking a short break "for himself" but will still be in the studio because "that's where he likes to be."
