A Texas high school teacher was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly having an improper relationship with a student, KHOU reported.

Kristin Sims, 33, was working up until she was taken into custody around noon. According to police spokeswoman Sgt. Donna Valdepena, authorities were notified that morning of the possible relationship and launched an investigation, which was assisted by the Collin County Child Advocacy Center.

report by The Dallas Morning News said the alleged victim is a 17-year-old boy and that the relationship was brief.

Sims, who was an English teacher at the school, immediately resigned from her position and is being held on $25,000 bail in Collin County Jail.

Ian Halperin, a Wylie Independent School District spokesman, said in a statement that the administration is "extremely shocked and saddened by these allegations."

"Wylie ISD is cooperating fully with the investigation and we have taken all appropriate actions in accordance with the law and district policy.  Mrs. Sims resigned her position with Wylie ISD and is no longer a district employee.  As this is still on ongoing investigation, we cannot comment any further.  Any other questions need to be directed to the Wyle Police Department," the full statement read.

Until the investigation is complete, the school district has declined to comment further.
