Taking a step forward in cross-platform accessibility, Viber announced its availability on Windows 8 in a fully fledged app form.

Viber is an application that allows users to make free calls, send texts, share pictures and videos across all platforms. The company has been trying to venture into every sphere of communication and its attempt at extra revenue-generating was clearly evident with the launch of features like a Sticker Market and Viber Out.

Now the company has moved on to collaborate with Microsoft and has launched its application that will be compatible with Windows 8.

"This is the natural next step for Viber following our support for Windows Phone 8, bringing a fully compatible and custom designed version of Viber to Microsoft's touch-friendly OS," CEO and founder Talmon Marco said, according to Tech Crunch. "Windows 8 is an exciting platform to develop for, and brings a whole new set of UI elements and unique functionality to Viber for the first time. We are excited to support Viber users on Windows 8 and this is part of our commitment to wide, cross platform availability."

With the new launch, Windows 8 users can switch between mobile and desktop usage by using a single push button.

"We worked closely with Microsoft to provide the best possible Viber experience on Windows 8. Viber for Windows 8 and the latest versions of the Viber application for smartphones have been designed to allow you to use Viber on multiple devices, so you can always use the app that's right for you, whether at home, in school, at the office, or on the go," Viber declared in a press statement.

Recently, the company launched Viber Out, a new service that allows users to call non-viber users on their mobile or landlines. Though this feature is also available on Skype, the rates offered by Viber are far lower, making it a better bet for users.
