Walt Disney Animation Studios has unveiled their newest addition to their Disney Princess family.

Moana Waialiki's story will be set about 200 years ago in the islands of the South Pacific, Huffington Post reports, citing a Bleeding Cool story.

"The main character will be Moana Waialiki, a sea voyaging enthusiast, and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her family needs her help, she sets off on an epic journey. The film will also include demi-gods and spirits taken from real mythology," Disney said in a statement.

According to HuffPost, John Musker and Ron Clements, a duo whom are very familiar with Disney Princesses, will direct the film. The directors have worked on Disney classics such as "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin".

The details about the animated film are yet to be released, but rumors are swirling the film will be reminiscent of Disney's Oscar-nominated short "Paperman".

"Several sources are currently reporting that the first piece of concept art for Moana has been released, but the image in question has been linked to independent artist Sue Nichols, rather than the Walt Disney Animation Studios," the HuffPost reports.

However, Musker spoke with Indiewire about "Moana" to set the record straight.

"[Musker] confirmed that it's far too early to apply the Paperman hybrid technique to a feature. The Meander digital in-betweening interface still has a host of production issues (including color) that need to be perfected," Indiewire reports.

Musker added the success of "Paperman" is very impressive.

"In some ways, it may be the tip of the iceberg in how there are ways that hand-drawn sensibilities can merge, and I think there will be other things that come out that find ways of fusing those," Musker told Indiewire.

"Moana" is slated hit theaters sometime in 2018, but there is no set release date.
