Actress Doris Roberts passed away Sunday night in Los Angeles at the age of 90 of natural causes. The "Everybody Loves Raymond" star was beloved by fans, co-stars and celebrity admirers who took to social media to remember her.

Roberts was best known for her work opposite Ray Romano on the sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," which ran from 1996 to 2005, but she was also known for her work in "St. Elsewhere," "Remington Steele," "Soap," "Fantasy Island," "The Love Boat" and "The Streets of San Francisco." Throughout her career, she took home four Emmys, three for "Everybody Loves Raymond" and one for "St. Elsewhere."

"Desperate Housewives," "The King of Queens," "The Middle," "Grey's Anatomy" and "Law & Order: SVU" were among her more recent TV credits.

Born Doris May Green in St. Louis, the late actress grew up in New York. She briefly attended NYU to become a journalist before dropping out to pursue acting full-time. She was married to Michael Cannata from 1956 to 1962 and had one son, Michael Cannata, Jr. She then married writer William Goyen in 1963 and remained married to him until his death in 1983. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law Jane and three grandchildren, Kelsey, Andrew and Devon.

"Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me," Romano said in a statement about his TV mother. "She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."
