The 2017 Presidents Cup captains are set in stone as Steve Stricker will lead the United States into battle against Nick Price and the International team.

It's the first time Stricker, who was an assistant captain in 2015, will be captain for the U.S., but this will be Price's third go-around as leader of the International squad. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon.

The 2017 Presidents Cup will take place on Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, N.J. Price will be in danger of losing his third straight Presidents Cup as captain of the International team after losing a heartbreaker to captain Jay Haas and the U.S. last year in South Korea and again in 2013 against captain Fred Couples at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

Stricker, a 12-time PGA Tour winner and runner-up at the 1998 PGA Championship, owns a 14-10 career record as a player in the Presidents Cup. He was a member of the 1996, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 teams, all of which won.

"I'm incredibly honored to have been selected as a U.S. team captain for the Presidents Cup, and am looking forward to it coming to Liberty National, one of my favorite venues," he said. "This event has meant a lot to me, and I'm looking forward to leading what will be a very promising U.S. team in 2017."

Price has a more decorated career than Stricker but much less success in terms of the Presidents Cup. The 59-year-old has won 18 PGA Tour events, including the PGA Championship (twice) and the British Open, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003. However, as a player on the International Presidents Cup team, he's just 1-3-1, which brings his overall record as a captain and player to 1-5-1.

Price will become the third International captain, along with Gary Player and Peter Thompson, to get a third chance at leading the team. Maybe the third time will be a charm, but the U.S. is 9-1-1 in the competition since its inception in 1994.

"It's an honor for me to continue to serve as International team captain once again in 2017," Price added. "The Presidents Cup has meant so much to me and to my career, both as a player and a captain, and I'm excited to have another chance to be a part of this great event. I am so looking forward to leading what I'm sure will be another very strong International Team and having another opportunity to win the Cup, after such a close finish last year."

It's likely Jordan Spieth is hoping this news is stealing some headlines after his collapse at the Masters on Sunday.
