The Dallas Cowboys are currently one of the teams picking in the top five picks in the 2016 NFL Draft. As they begin their draft preparation, the Cowboys are beginning to meet with the top prospects heading into the NFL's biggest offseason event.

Jalen Ramsey visited the team on Friday, as they will hope that the defensive back is available when they are on the clock. Dallas is looking to revamp their secondary similar to how they developed their offensive line, through first round draft selections.

They selected defensive back Byron Jones in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, and he has shown his versatility playing at multiple positions of need for Dallas. This year, there are only two defensive backs that the Cowboys could potentially select, and Ramsey appears to have the edge on the competition.

He is a versatile player who could potentially play both strong and free safety, cornerback, or even in certain packages linebacker. The other defensive back projected to be selected within the first round is Vernon Hargreaves III, who is strictly a cornerback.

Ramsey is even being discussed as the number one overall pick, so he could be gone by the time the Cowboys are on the clock, which means that Hargreaves III could be in play. The Dallas secondary performed a lot better than they did during the 2014 season, and if they had the offensive firepower to match, there is a strong argument to be made that the Cowboys would have secured another playoff spot.

If Jerry Jones is truly banking on this roster to make a deep playoff run, he is looking to sign productive players who can fill multiple positions of need, and only a handful of players fit that profile. Linebacker Myles Jack is also in the discussion to be a top 10 selection, but his knee injury prior to the NFL combine has made him a questionable selection so early in the draft.

Jack could play in the safety position as well, but he is more suited as a cover linebacker. There are several other prospects that the Cowboys can select, but it is telling that they brought Ramsey in considering that every player they have selected in the first round since 2006 for the exception of Morris Claiborne has visited Valley Ranch prior to the draft. Ramsey would be a huge boost to this secondary, as the Cowboys will look to make a playoff push in 2016.
