Gwen Stefani's April Fool's Day 2016 prank wasn't necessarily original, but that didn't stop the singer from posting the cheeky joke on Instagram early Friday. The No Doubt frontwoman sent fans and tabloids in a tizzy when she shared a sonogram of a baby in the womb and joked about expecting a baby girl with her boyfriend, country crooner Blake Shelton.

A fake pregnancy announcement might be one of the oldest tricks in the book, and Stefani seemed to use the prank to mock a recent tabloid story that claimed she was planning a pregnancy with Shelton.

"It's a girl," the 46-year-old fashion designer wrote in the caption of her Instagram post, along with three heart emojis.

In Touch Magazine published a story earlier this week quoting an anonymous source who claimed that Stefani is in the process of freezing her eggs so that she could have a chance of conceiving a daughter with the "Came Here To Forget" singer in the future.

Stefani and Shelton have been dating since last October, and sources said that while the couple is madly in love, they're not quite ready to become parents just yet. Stefani is already a mom of three- she shares 9-year-old son Kingston, 7-year-old son Zuma and 2-year-old son Apollo with her Bush rocker ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, and Shelton has embraced spending time with her boys. The coach of NBC's hit singing competition series "The Voice" even invited Stefani and her sons to his hometown in Tishomingo, Okla. last weekend for an Easter celebration.

"Coming from the relationships they did, it's really important to both of them to make time for each other," an insider close to the couple said. "They both recognize the importance of time for a relationship and for family."

While the April Fool's Day prank seemed to be Stefani's way of addressing the tabloid rumors, some fans were offended by the "Make Me Like You" singer's prank. Many of them posted angry comments on the post, telling Stefani that her joke was in poor taste since there are women who struggle with infertility problems.

"So insensitive to everyone suffering infertility issues! Totally gone off you now @gwenstefani," one Instagram user wrote.

"@gwenstefani this is tacky and in poor taste. No longer a fan! Shame on you!" another commenter wrote.
