You know what they say about playing with fire, don't you? Someone probably should have told Carice van Houten's Melisandre because the "Game of Thrones" character is probably feeling pretty burned up right about now. When last we saw the Red priestess, her King Stannis Baratheon was being chopped to bits and she was running tail to Castle Black. Clearly, something was lost in translation between her and the Lord of Light.

She won't be forgetting her failures anytime soon either. Van Houten and Liam Cunningham (Davos) both said that season six finds Melisandre at a crossroads in her life.

Van Houten described her character as a woman whose "whole world is shaken" and is "completely confused" when we meet up with her once again.

"What the f--- is happening," van Houten said. "She's been on this mission and all of a sudden it makes no sense and her tricks don't work - the sacrifice of this girl didn't work. But I think it's slowly getting to her that she might have been slightly wrong about things, so that's where we leave her in season five and that's definitely where she starts off in season six."

Cunningham agreed, explaining that Melisandre's faith is "shaken," something his character can relate to.

"It's a little odd, you do find yourself in no man's land. You have to remember that myself and [Melisandre], the reason for being in the show, which is Stannis, has been taken away from us. So what our trajectory was, it's gone that way."

Despite the loss of their anchor, the two characters may find themselves adrift on an amazing and surprising journey together this season.

"The first episode to kick off with [Melisandre] - without saying anything again - is astonishing," he said. "There's absolutely amazing stuff coming up, just so left of field, unexpected and just watching your and my favorite characters being put in these situations that are just so unpredictable and just so unexpected and it's one of the trademarks of the show."

Could this new endeavor be at all related to the possible return of Kit Harington's Jon Snow? The two didn't say, but we're willing to bet the bastard of Winterfell has something to do with it.

"Game of Thrones" will return to HBO for a sixth season on Sunday, April 24.
