It wasn't all that long ago that Tim Tebow was fighting for a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles roster. The former Heisman Trophy-winning Florida Gators quarterback and one-time first-round NFL draft pick had bounced from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets to the New England Patriots for a cup of coffee and a mechanics check before spending some time out of the league. Tebow took one last shot at a professional football career last offseason with the Chip Kelly-led Eagles, hoping his work with quarterback guru Tom House, who also works with Tom Brady, would be the ticket to a lasting NFL starting gig.

Ultimately though, Tebow missed the mark and landed outside the league once again - this time for good.

But don't think for a second that the story of Tebow is over and done just yet. No, if a recent interview Tebow gave is any indication, Tebow could be back in the national spotlight in a very prominent, but very different way sometime in the not-too-distant future - as a politician.

"If there's a chance you could make a difference someday on something, then that would be intriguing," Tebow said when asked what he thought about a run for office.

Tebow, though he hasn't tossed a regular season NFL pass since 2012, remains one of the most popular quarterbacks in the league.

In fact, due to his athleticism, if really wanted to Tebow could likely still be an NFLer. But despite the insistence of any number of NFL coaches and pundits that he may be better-suited at a position other than signal-caller in the NFL, Tebow stuck to his belief that he was a future franchise quarterback.

For a time, it looked as though that may be the case in Denver. Unfortunately though, Tebow was never able to sufficiently improve his mechanics or his decision-making in the eyes of the NFL's personnel men.

Tebow though, who joined Fox as a college football analyst in 2013, prior to his short stint with the Eagles, and then returned there post-Philly, seems plenty happy with his life these days. In fact, Tebow answered the question regarding a possible political future with "I don't know in this time in my life," but left room for a potential run.

He also made clear that helping people, as with his charity, the Tim Tebow Foundation, which recently held its annual golf outing, will always be what he considers his true calling.

"Making a difference is always better than playing football," Tebow said. "Golfing? Ehh, I don't really know about that. But being able to put a smile on a kid's face? Yeah."
