With a little help from Ellen DeGeneres, Pittsburgh Pirate named National League MVP Andrew McCutchen proposed to his longtime girlfriend.

Maria Hansloven and the MVP have been dating for more than four years when he decided it was time to take the next step in their relationship. The Major League Baseball player couldn't hide his nerves as he talked to DeGeneres on her widely viewed talk show.

McCutchen started his segment on the "Elle DeGeneres Show" by transitioning to a video montage of his 2013 baseball career.

"When I hit a homerun, it's a homerun, but there's a bigger picture behind it for me. Going to first, going to second, going to third and then going home... each base that I touch, it means a year," McCutchen explained in the video.

DeGeneres played coy, asking if McCutchen had someone special in his life, to which he responded yes. The talk show host then signaled for Hansloven, who was sitting in the audience, to join them on the stage.

"I've always envisioned that I would be on the highest mountain in the world and my voice would be as loud as a lion's roar times a billion so the whole world could hear me just tell you how much I love you," McCutchen said to his lady, choking back tears. "I didn't do any of this for the publicity. I didn't do any of this for the recognition. I did this to show you that if I could tell the whole world how much I love you, I would do that."

McCutchen then got down on one knee as the audience cheered him on. The next words out of the MVP's mouth were, "Will you marry me?" Hansloven said YES!
