The 2016 NFL draft is still a month away, but players like Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Laquon Treadwell have been generating buzz as potential top 10 picks. The Dallas Cowboys pick in the top five this year and the team could consider taking a quarterback with the selection.

The team has reportedly been interested in Carson Wentz as an option to be the backup for Tony Romo. The Cowboys saw last season what can happen without a legitimate backup plan, and Wentz could be the option at number four. However, the Cowboys should consider taking Laquon Treadwell at number four, as they could give Dez Bryant a legitimate number two receiver to play with.

Jerry Jones said earlier this offseason that the team doesn't necessarily need to take a quarterback at number four, as they can look at free agency, trades and later in the draft as options. Even with that said, the Cowboys probably will consider taking a quarterback with the fourth overall pick. The Cowboys likely will not be picking this low in the draft for a while and with some solid prospects at the quarterback position, it will be hard to not think about making that move.

Last season Romo played in just four games for the Cowboys and the team did not get much production from the backup position. Romo is coming off of surgery and while he will be ready for next season, the team wants to be better prepared if he is injured again. Jared Goff is considered to be the top prospect in the draft class by most scouts, but Wentz has generated some serious buzz coming out of the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine.

The Cowboys should have the chance at either Wentz/Goff, or Treadwell with the number four pick. Treadwell is coming out of Ole Miss after putting up some strong numbers and he could be a great partner for Bryant. Treadwell had 82 catches for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Rebels in 2015. Last season Bryant dealt with injuries and that was one of the main reasons why the Cowboys missed the playoffs.

The Cowboys have a big decision to make in the draft, but either the way, the team should get a prime prospect at number four. Whether it's a quarterback or another position remains to be seen.
