Audi is all set to make its entry into the compact Sports Utility Vehicle market with a latest addition to its popular "Q" series, the Q1 in 2016.

Audi is one of the finest luxury car makers around the world with its reach in sedans, coupe, convertibles, hatchback, SUVs, and sports. The German car maker has 49 models in its luxury car lineup and the company's plan to expand to 60 models by 2020 will grow stronger with a new addition. Audi confirmed that it will introduce Q1 compact SUV in 2016, which will be the first of its kind in the company's car lineup.

Audi has constantly delivered the best experience and is expected to keep up its standard with the Q1. The launch of the new model is still years away but the company's concept design for the Q1 is fresh and stylish. This may also not be the final design considering a few modifications to match with the growing technology over the coming years. But the confirmation of its first compact SUV model challenges the current players, like the Nissan Juke and Mini Countryman.

"The Audi Q1 is part of our broad-based SUV strategy. It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end," Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, said in a press release.

Audi has enjoyed year-on-year increase in sales and is listed among the top three sellers of luxury automobiles. According to the company's October sales report, more than nearly 132,000 Audi models were sold, a 6.7 percent increase compared to the previous year. Audi is expected to sell more than 2 million cars each year by 2020.

The upcoming Q1 model will be assembled at one of the company's primary plants, in Ingolstadt, Germany. It is too soon to conclude on the pricing of the upcoming model and their detailed specifications but future official announcements will give a clearer picture.

Audi's decision to enter the compact SUV market comes from its unbeatable success in the SUV market. The Audi Q5 has been the global market leader with nearly 195,000 units sold from January to October end.
