Our favorite villain is back and this time, she's helping?

According to the Entertainment Weekly website, Natalie Dormer is returning as Moriarty when "Elementary" gets back Jan. 2 from its midseason break.

Executive Producer Rob Doherty recently did an interview with the website in which he explains why Sherlock's arch nemesis/love interest is  and the awkwardness that will ensue.

According to Doherty, Joan and Watson assume Moriarty is responsible for a young girl's kidnapping. However, she has been under federal custody making her involvement highly questionable. (However, if Moriarty is the evil mastermind that character has been in other versions of the Sherlock Homes story, nothing she does should surprise anyone.) Moriarty will become an aid in the efforts to solve the case.

Doherty also discussed the interesting position Moriarty would be in and how her lack of a companion ultimately led to her capture.

"She recognizes that she was defeated but she hasn't quite figured it out yet," Doherty explains. "I think she's certainly one to point out that she has a lot in common with Sherlock, but unlike him, she has remained independent to her detriment and, ultimately, that's really what led to her downfall last year.

"She doesn't have a Watson in her life, and she could probably benefit from one. Sherlock and Joan as a unit tend to be stronger than Moriarty as a solo."

Doherty added all those who can't wait to see the strange dynamic between Holmes and Moriarty will see the two get "a little alone time over the course of the episode."
