Google Play Music update is bringing extensive storage facility by letting its users store cached music on device's micro SD card for offline listening.

In a latest update,  Google Play Music app brings support to store cached music on devices' micro SD card. This allows users to listen to music offline without using the mobile data and minimal usage of the device's fixed storage that is pre-occupied by OS, apps and media.

According to Google's release note description for the app, Google Play Music version 5.3.1316 adds "SD card support for offline music on KitKat (Experimental support on some older devices)." This means the new update is optimized for the latest Android operating system, but still works on other devices running the older version of the OS.

Besides the new store-to-SD option, users will see a slight change in the app's user interface. The slideout menu shows the active screen in bold letters instead of grey backgrounds. The update also lets users share music as a new share button appears on the overflow menu while viewing or listening to tracks.

The default setting on Google Play Music app is to store the cached music on the device, but after the update, users can change it to SD card. Before doing so, users must ensure a working micro SD card is inserted correctly into the device and change the storage option under the "Downloading" section of the "Music Settings."

The update is currently being rolled out, so if you have set permissions on your device before an update then manually update the app from Google Play Store.
