Instagram has taken a page from its parent company Facebook and invited the press to "share a moment" with the company's co-founder and his team. The meet  will be held next week, December 12, in New York.

Instagram, the popular photo and video-sharing service, is hosting a big press event to announce its next big move. Instagram sent postal invites to a mysterious press event to be held next week in New York. The   photo-sharing service took a leaf out of Facebook's book, which is known for similar invitation methods.  The invite has set the tech press abuzz, which believes that the company is getting ready to introduce photo printing.

According to CNET, the invitation came wrapped in a 4-inch long and wide wooden block of 1.75 inch thickness with a brown paper and a white ribbon. The wooden block was printed with an Instagram snap and carried a hanging slot. The invite read: "You are invited to share a moment with [Instagram cofounder] Kevin Systrom and the Instagram team," read the note, according to CNET.

The event will take place next week, Dec. 12,  in Manhattan, New York..

TechCrunch believes sending a paper invitation itself suggests that the company is planning to get into printing, which makes sense considering Instagram's efforts to keep at par with its competitors. Moreover,  photo-printing will monetize the company's business, which was started last month by displaying ads within the app.

Previous rumors about the company have hinted at  Instagram's plans to integrate a private messaging platform.

We are still a week away from finding out what actually comes out of that mysterious event. Stay tuned.
