The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking into the prospect of signing former New York Giants starting cornerback Prince Amukamara. The Nebraska alum hit free agency as the Giants signed former Los Angeles Ram Janoris Jenkins. Amukamara would help solidify the Jaguars' defensive backfield as he would be an upgrade from some of the talent they have on the roster.

Bringing in a solid cornerback to line up next to their 2015 free agent acquisition Davon House should be the next goal for the Jaguars as they could miss out on drafting the best cornerback in the 2016 NFL Draft. Amukamara was relatively inconsistent on the Giants, and that is because he couldn't stay on the field.

In 2015 he only started in 10 games, recorded 63 combined tackles, 10 pass defenses and an interception. Amukamara has had at least one interception in every season he has been in the NFL. At only 26 there is still a solid amount of upside for the young cornerback, and the Jaguars could attempt to develop his skills as time goes on.

The primary concern is that he has only started a full season one time in his career, and even during that season he only recorded one interception. The Jaguars have been aggressive in free agency but not nearly as aggressive as the NFL thought they were going to be.

The Jaguars signed the top free agent in the NFL, Malik Jackson, to a mega deal worth $90 million. They also signed running back Chris Ivory, formerly of the New York Jets, and safety Tashaun Gipson, formerly of the Cleveland Browns.

They main guy they missed out on was defensive end Olivier Vernon who ended up going to the Giants, so the Jaguars are trying to make up for that by bringing in former Giant Robert Ayers. The Jaguars have been one of the worst pass-rushing teams in the NFL in recent memory.

Adding Malik Jackson is a great first step to adding some punch to this pass rush, but the Jaguars will still have to have a solid draft to really rebuild their defensive line. The Jaguars should turn their attention to filling their needs in free agency so they can select the best player available in the NFL Draft.
