The Samsung Galaxy S7 packs the latest and greatest hardware to date, and this is best depicted in the device's super smooth performance. Particularly, the massive processing power of the S7 is a boon to gaming, which Samsung pointedly underscored with the introduction of the all new Game Launcher.

At first glance, the dedicated launcher for gaming appears to be a tool to organize gaming apps. Some observers could even identify it as a glorified folder. However, this is not the case. Aside from serving as the destination for games, it also includes several functions that can contribute to a better and more immersive gaming experience.

When activated, the Game Launcher creates a persistent icon that the user can tap in-game to use add-on features. For instance, when playing "Clash of Clans," the player can just tap it to access a menu that offer several tools, such as the capability to disable alerts so as not to be disturbed while playing. The user can also take a screenshot and even record a video of both the gameplay and player at the same time. In addition, the gamer can use this icon to turn the lock on and prevent the multitasking feature from being activated. Other features include the ability to pause and minimize the game when checking another app or an important message.

As is often the case in new products and features, the Game Launcher also has several drawbacks or areas that need refinement. There are players, for example, that could be annoyed with the ever present Game Launcher icon, which could be accidentally hit while playing. Unfortunately, there is no option to turn it off. Players could also encounter some hiccups as the launcher adjusts frame rates during gameplay.

If the number of unhappy users begin piling up, it is possible that Samsung would correct the issue in the next firmware update. There are already reports that detail how some Galaxy S7 are already receiving the over-the-air Android Marshmallow update. It is unclear whether previous Galaxy models will also be able to use the Game Launcher function once the update rolls out across different Galaxy models.
