Since almost everything else on the Internet is trying to find a way to be connected to social media, Oculus has announced that it would also be providing such features on its virtual reality platform, starting March 11.

With the new feature, players with the Oculus VR gears will have the ability to create online profiles, search for profiles of other gear users, and interact with them via the VR world.

The incorporation of social media in Oculus is not so surprising, considering that it is owned by social media giant Facebook. In fact, Facebook features are prominent in the upgrade on the gear's social platform, which includes the availability of the recently released variations of the "Like" button.

A few weeks ago, during the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased how the company is advancing in the realm of Virtual Reality while talking to a large audience who all wore VR headsets.

"[P]retty soon we're going to live in a world where everyone has the power to share and experience whole scenes as if you're just there right there in person," Zuckerberg said.

The Oculus will now allow users to record and share 360-degree videos from within the virtual space they have been exploring. Other users that see the shared videos can then choose to "Like" them. An API to enable developers to create social links is also in the works and could be available in the coming months.

Aside from the social platform, Oculus is also adding two video games that friends can enjoy together in the same virtual world, no matter where they are in the real world.

One game is called "Social Trivia," which is like a general quiz contest that friends and family can participate in.

The second game is "Herobound: Gladiators," a multiplayer, adventure game wherein players will team up and battle monsters in an arena. Voice chat is available during the game, making it easy for the team members to communicate.

The games, according to Oculus, will allow players to "band together with up to four people to conquer goblins and demons in arena battlefields."

Both games are available in the Concepts Section of the Oculus Store.
