Being a single woman is the new lifestyle - that is, according to a jewelry designer who created a diamond ring to symbolize a woman's independence. The jewelry is the "engagement ring" for the woman who is not in a relationship. It's the ring that professes her commitment to her own happiness.

Ruta Fox designed The Ah Ring, a 14-karat white band that includes eleven full-cut diamonds. It is meant to be worn on the pinky finger, and the "Ah" stands for two things: available and happiness.

"Single is the new lifestyle. It's becoming more and more prevalent - there's definitely a trend that more people are living single for a longer time," the South Carolina designer said.

The rings are sold at Divine Diamonds for $450. Fox's creation has drawn the interest of celebrities like Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyra Banks. It should be noted that Banks is in a committed relationship and just became a new mother, so "Ah" could very well mean "attached and happy" in her case.

Although created for single women who enjoy their status and love the idea of showering themselves with nice gifts or gifting themselves for their achievements, the ring is also worn by divorcees as symbol for healing and moving on from a painful relationship.

"I have tons of notes from women. They tell me that their ring actually meant something. It was very special to them, it resonated with them. Women were deeply attached to the feeling, the emotional part of it," Fox told People. "I wanted to turn a negative thing on its ear. For however long you are single, feel good about being wherever you are. It's all about being confident, joyful and happy. The Ah Ring kind of symbolizes that feeling."

Fox's clients love the idea behind the symbolic ring. "The ring was liberating for me, because I don't need others to tell me that I'm beautiful, I'm sexy, I'm intelligent, I'm fabulous just as I am," Della Beaver, who has never been married, said.
