The CW has cast debutant Camila Mendes to play Veronica Lodge in "Riverdale," the pilot based on the Archie Comics, according to Deadline.

Mendes' character has been described as an "intelligent, confident, silver-tongued high school sophomore who returns to Riverdale from New York, eager to reinvent herself after a scandal involving her father."

The CW pilot recently signed New Zealand-born actor KJ Apa to play the role of Archie and added Ashleigh Murray to the cast as Josie along with Luke Perry, who will be playing Archie's father, as HNGN previously reported.

The show has already found its Betty Cooper and Jughead in Lili Reinhart and former Disney Channel star Cole Sprouse.

The series, which also stars Cheryl Blossom as Madelaine Petsch, has been described as "a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos."

Greg Berlanti ("Arrow"), Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will serve as executive producers on the show with Aguirre-Sacasa, whose credits include "Supergirl" and "Glee," writing the screenplay, according to Comicbook.com.
