A white pony dressed as a unicorn led California Highway Patrol on a not-so-mystical chase through the streets of Madera County, Calif., Wednesday evening after she escaped from a children's birthday party.

Juliette, a white pony adorned with a fake horn, was posing with kids during a children's photo shoot in Madera Ranchos near Fresno, as her owner, photographer Sandra Boos, took photos, reported USA Today.

Speaking with reporters, Boos said that Juliette tried to escape on two seperate occasions while she was busy attending to other affairs.

The first time was at 2:30 p.m. when she tried to escape the children's party, but was quickly captured, according to Fox's North Carolina affiliate WGHP-TV.

She was far more successful the second time, escaping the party at 5:30 p.m. and dashing into the streets of Madera Ranchos. The family who was hosting the photoshoot called authorities who launched a multi-hour "unicorn hunt."

"The calls were coming in as a unicorn running around out there on the roadway," said Joshua McConnell with California Highway Patrol, according to CW's Indiana affiliate WISH-TV.

The search became so desperate that authorities had to make use of a helicopter and thermal imaging to locate the pony, which was eventually discovered in an orchard. A nearby resident used her own horse, with whom Juliette was acquainted, to lure her out and allow police to apprehend her.

"The call came out 'the unicorn was in custody' and I think as tense as the situation was I think it was the comedic relief. That was needed at the time and I laughed, and I cried, and I thanked God," Boos said.

Juliette was returned to Boos, after the chase ended, with her horn still intact.
