Verizon has announced some very impressive news during this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, stating that the company had been working with a number of partners in field testing the next generation of wireless Internet connectivity, 5G, according to Bidness ETC.

Notably, Verizon did announce during the previous year that it would begin testing the new technology. By partnering with a number of companies - Apple, Ericsson, Intel, Nokia, Samsung and Qualcomm - Verizon has managed to own up to its promise last year.

The group of firms working with Verizon, which the company calls its own "5G Technology Forum," have been in the process of developing components and technologies in order to make 5G ready for consumers in the next few years, reports GSM Arena.

Of course, apart from coordinating with each other in order to make conventional Internet use much more efficient for the common consumer, the 5G Technology Forum had also been putting its efforts towards developing stable technology in order to make it the very backbone of the Internet of Things, reports Giz Mag.

Verizon's Vice President of Technology Planning, Adam Koeppe, has stated that once launched, the company's 5G networks would foster communications between countless devices and push the capabilities of the Internet further than ever before, further stating that Verizon, together with its partners, is working quickly in order to bring the technology for public use as soon as possible.

"We plan to expand this testing significantly over the next several months. We are very much aligned towards implementing 5G technology in 2017," he said.
