We love simple desserts. A perfect chocolate chip cookie, a dense brownie, a strawberry dipped in homemade whipped cream, a good ole apple pie - all these are non-fussy, non-fancy, spectacular desserts that will make any sweet-tooth swoon and bring you back to childhood. A great way to expand your dessert repertoire without having to learn what a coulis is or how to make fancy shapes out of boiling hot sugar, is to find out what the basic dessert staples are in another country.

Case in point: Brazil's brigadeiros.

Brigadeiros are the chocolate chip cookie of Brazil, says Epicurious. No kids' party is complete without them, and everyone knows how to whip up a batch. They're even easier to make than cookies, using only one pot and one plate. They're a no-bake dessert, and they contain only three ingredients, plus toppings. They also happen to be wonderfully decadent, explains From Brazil To You. They're perfectly round balls of fudgy chocolate goodness, covered in chocolate sprinkles, shredded coconut, or crushed pistachios.

You can also eat the mix before it's rolled into balls, either with a spoon like Nutella or spread onto cookies, cakes or bread, adds From Brazil To You.
