Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, took to Tumblr to announce on Feb. 23 hat she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The senator said "my prognosis is good and I expect a full recovery," reports CNN.

McCaskill's sharing of her condition garnered widespread support across social media, with Hillary Clinton tweeting and asking McCaskill to "Stay strong," reports USA Today.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. Roy Blunt were among others who tweeted their support to McCaskill.

McCaskill is scheduled to be at St. Louis over the next three weeks for treatment, reports The Hill.

Though she will not be present in the Senate, McCaskill has said that she would be virtually present and would be updating her website as well as the Congressional Record to register her vote on issues as they come up.

She thanked the people of Missouri "for the honor of serving you in the Senate," via her post on Tumblr.
