Google's latest pure Android smartphone, the Nexus 5, launched earlier this month to mostly positive reviews and a very successful launch, which saw customers flock to the Google Play Store on the day of its release selling out every unit within just a few hours due to its low $349 price tag. Unfortunately now it seems that a lot of the customers who got their hands on the device are reporting issues with the microphone.

Many people are having second thoughts about the device after reporting an issue while trying to make calls. According to InformationWeek, over the last few weeks Google's product forums have been flooded with complaints that the microphone output being extremely low in volume when using most wired headsets. The problem is apparently so bad that the volume is almost non existent and inaudible to people on the other end of the phone call.

Many in the Google forums have offered workarounds and suggestions of headsets that actually work (noting that the problem only affects wired headsets and that those that utilize Bluetooth technology aren't affected). A Google Nexus support representative posted to the forums letting those complaining about the issue know that they have been able to reproduce the problem and are hard at work to find a solution to the problem. Google's PR department has verified that the company is aware of the issue and that it will be fixed in an upcoming software release. This has put to rest some of the rumors that the issue had to do with the device's hardware.

However, given that Android 4.4 KitKat hasn't been released on Nexus 7 and 10 tablets yet, the wait for a fix patch might take a while. This has caused many in the forums to say that they will be returning their Nexus 5 smartphone because of the problem. This is unfortunate for Google as the phone received mostly positive reviews except for the microphone issue.
