Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag were once the couple that everyone loved to hate, but since the MTV reality show "The Hills" was canceled in 2010 after six seasons, the once famous couple almost disappeared from the spotlight completely. Six years since the show that made them household names ended, Pratt sat down with Vice's Broadly for an exclusive interview in which he compared the end of the show to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"[The Hills getting cancelled] was our 9/11," Pratt told writer Mitchell Sunderland, who spent five months with the couple.

Following the finale of "The Hills," Pratt and Montag fled to Costa Rica to buy a house there but discovered the market was way too expensive for them. Instead of returning home to the United States, they spent the last of their money living at the Ritz-Carlton for six months where they ordered room service every day. Now, the couple lives in Pratt's father's beach house, rent-free.

"Nobody wants to break into our home anymore," Pratt said. "They Google our new worth and see we are worth $10."

"The biggest misconception about us is that we wouldn't do it all over again," Montag added.

"The Hills" was a "Laguna Beach" spinoff reality show that concentrated on Lauren Conrad living in Los Angeles. At the time, Montag was billed as Conrad's small town best friend, until she met Pratt. The two married back in 2009 and the ceremony was broadcasted as "The Hills" fifth season finale, which was also Conrad's last appearance on the show, according to Us Weekly.
