Julianne Moore is in talks to play the villain in "Kingsman 2," the follow-up to the 2014 hit film adaptation of Mark Millar's and Dave Gibbons' comic book series, "The Secret Service," starring Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong and Samuel L. Jackson, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Matthew Vaugh, who helmed "Kingsman: The Secret Service," will be directing the sequel, which is set in the United States. Egerton will also reprise his role as Eggsy in the film.

Last month, the "Eddie the Eagle" star revealed that "Kingsman 2" will have a new villain that measures up to Jackson, who played the bad guy in the original spy film.

"With Kingsman 2, we're shooting in the summer at present. There's a script, it's brilliant," said Egerton, according to Collider. "Obviously there's only so much I can say but what I can say is that we shot [the first] one all in the U.K., that won't be the case with the next one. It's a far more international story, we're going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson - this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It's amazing," he added.

Although there was speculation that Firth would be returning to play Gallahad as part of a flashback or as his evil twin brother in "Kingsman 2," he is not expected to feature in the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Kingsman 2" is slated to hit theaters on June 16, 2017.
