Lately, we've noticed that chocolate bars aren't what they used to be. Maybe we've just grown up, but it really seems that the candy bars of our youth have deteriorated in quality. Twix are hard and powdery, Kit Kats don't melt in your mouth in the same way and Oh Henry bars taste a little dull despite its many fillings.

You can blame cost-cutting, "chocolaty coating," preservatives and low-quality beans for this, explained Cocoa Symposium. "The chocolate industry has lost sight of its fundamentals, which include flavor. Most chocolate people don't know good chocolate," said Mark Christian, founder of the C-spot, a chocolate connoisseur website, according to Newsweek.

Unfortunately, no amount of wishing will make big American chocolate companies revert back to making chocolate bars that taste better but cost more to make. Besides buying imported chocolate, we can only suggest one thing: make your own chocolate bars! Buy good-quality chocolate to melt down and use it in incredible recipes, like the one below.

Here's a video and recipe by Tastemade that shows how to make one of our favorites: Twix. Crumbly, buttery cookie with rich caramel and milk chocolate? Sign us up. The treat makes an amazing gift, dish to bring to a party or to just devour while watching a movie. One commenter on Facebook astutely suggested that to make them look even more like the manufactured version, you should dip the bars into more chocolate at the end.
