Eva Longoria is throwing her support behind former Nevada attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto, who is bidding to become the replacement for outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.

If she wins, Cortez Masto would make history on two fronts. She would become the first Latina ever to hold a Senatorial seat as well as the first woman sent by Nevada to the Senate.

Longoria is presumably backing Cortez Masto based on her exemplary record. "It's time we send the first woman from Nevada - and the very first Latina - to the Senate," Longoria told Fox News Latino.

Cortez Masto's only opponent for the seat is three-term Republican candidate Dr. Joe Heck. Heck is a small business owner and, in the last quarter his campaign, raised $1.2 million with another $2.9 million available as capital in cash on hand. Cortez Masto possesses a lower campaign value with $2 million in cash on hand, and her campaign raised 1.3 million in the last quarter, The Inquisitr reported.

There is also another female candidate lobbying to become the first Latina of the Senate. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is vying for a seat to represent California. "I think we need a Latina in the U.S. Senate," Sanchez said, according to The Sacramento Bee.  However, Longoria and The Latino Victory project, the Latino, political initiative that Longoria is affiliated with, have not publicly come out in support of Sanchez. Their support for Cortez Masto in Nevada. however, is vocal and apparent.

With or without support, Cortez Masto's road will be long and hard fought, as Heck is using his underdog status in order to build a large grassroots movement of supporters. Longoria and the Latino community will have to come out in full force in order to secure a historical victory for Latin women.
