The Amazon Echo just got a lot more versatile, as it can now sync up with your home thermostat, controlling the temperature of your home with a simple command, The Verge reported.

In order for the two devices to sync, however, users must also have a Ecobee 3 connected thermostat. Other smart thermostats can be connected with the Echo, but the connections aren't direct and are therefore less specific. The Ecobee 3 is the first smart thermostat that connects directly with the Echo, allowing users to make specific commands, according to Engadget.

The two devices, the Echo and the Ecobee 3, are fully integrated through an API called Alexa Connected Home skills, Fortune reported. This new network of connectivity is the latest in smart home devices for Amazon.

Ecobee is the second largest seller of smart thermostats in the U.S. and can also be connected to Apple devices through their smart home platform called HomeKit.

The biggest competition for Amazon and the newly integrated smart thermostat, however, is Nest, which is currently the largest seller of connected thermostats in the country.

However, considering how much success the Amazon Echo has gained, Ecobee could soon give Nest a run for their money.
