After being named on Monday afternoon, Winter Storm Nacio is making its way across the Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic region, where 15 states are poised to see snow over the next few days. The third storm in five days to hit the region has caused winter storm warnings in the higher peaks of the Appalachians, as well as southern Pennsylvania and Ohio, according to The Weather Channel.

The snow has spread out over the mid-Atlantic, with Maryland, Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey seeing limited amounts of white powder. Two inches were reported in Damascus, Md., and Berks County, Pa., reported 1 inch. Ohio has seen the largest snowfall thus far, with 4 to 5 inches accumulating as of Tuesday morning, according to Wunderground.

Ohio will see temperatures remain in the 20s during the day throughout Tuesday, dropping to around 18 degrees at night, setting the stage for slick spots of ice to form and more snow showers to continue until Wednesday morning, according to Cincinnati's NBC affiliate WLWT 5. The area could see a total of 4 to 6 additional inches of snow.

The coastlines of Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey are expected to see a mix of snow and rain, with the high peaking around 25 degrees on Tuesday, per The Weather Channel. However, the corridor between Philadelphia and Baltimore and out to Washington, D.C., will most likely see moderate to heavy snowfall.

Most of the mid-Atlantic is predicted to see around 6 inches or less, and the Appalachian-Allegheny Plateau area could get up to 1 foot. Parts of the high country in West Virginia may also receive 12 inches or more, according to The Weather Channel.

Snow should be expected until Wednesday, where it will dissipate in most areas. The Great Lakes snow belt could still receive some snow late Wednesday.
