The hit British TV show "Top Gear" is getting a revamp with help from a friend. This season, "Friends" star Matt LeBlanc will join the show as the new co-host, making him the first non-British host in its long 39 years on screen.

"As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," said LeBlanc, according to BBC News. "What a thrill!"

LeBlanc previously appeared on the show in 2012 and achieved the fastest driving time ever on the show in a segment called "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car," according to The Wall Street Journal. LeBlanc joins British radio star Chris Evans as a co-host when the show relaunches later this year.

"Matt's a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I'm thrilled he's joining Top Gear," said Evans. "Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we'll both be debating some epic road trip ideas. We can't wait to share what we've been up to on screen later this year."

The hugely popular show lost its previous co-host Jeremy Clarkson in March when the BBC fired him after a verbal and physical altercation with a producer. Other co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May also left the series, according to E! News.
