Calling all PlayStation 4 users!  Before you start freaking out about the red blinking light on the next-gen console, IGN has set the record straight regarding your worst fears.

No, your console is not dead, you've just been over indulging on "Madden NFL 25" or "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag."  The blinking red light is an indicator that your console is overheating.  When this occurs, it's best to let the gaming system cool down before your begin playing again.

If the red light is a persistent problem, then you are urged to contact Sony's customer service support line at 1-800-345-SONY (1-800-345-7669).

However, there are issues you should be aware of with Sony's next-gen console. Electronic Arts, makers of sport simulators such as the Madden and FIFA series, have experienced problems with the day-one firmware update for the PS4.

Gamers have reported their title crashing or freezing and it's due to technical difficulties on Sony's behalf.  EA explained the issues on the "Help" section of their website:

"Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system. This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen.

"Unfortunately since it's an issue with Sony's firmware, it requires a new update to fix it. Sony is working to resolve the issue as quickly as they can. They will update their System Update page as new versions are made available, and we will keep this page updated as we find out more."

Sony has yet to release a statement about the EA titles issues.
