Kim Basinger has bagged a role in "Fifty Shades Darker," the sequel to 2015's film adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling erotic novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey," according to Variety.

Basinger will play the character of Elena Lincoln, Christian Grey's business partner and ex-lover, whereas Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan will return as Anastasia Steele and Mr. Grey in the film, with James Foley in the director's chair.

Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini will also reprise their roles in the sequel, which is being produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti as well as James and Marcus Viscidi. Niall Leonard and James are in charge of the film's screenplay.

"Fifty Shades Darker" and the third film in the series, "Fifty Shades Freed," will be shot back-to-back, and Foley will be directing both projects. The film is expected to begin shooting next month, as HNGN previously reported.

Basinger, who recently wrapped by "The Nice Guys" with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, has also appeared in films like "L.A. Confidential" and "Grudge Match," according to Entertainment Weekly.

"Fifty Shades Darker" is slated to hit theaters on February 10, 2017.
