The Chargers haven't yet decided to drop San Diego from their name, but they've taken another step in that direction. According to a report, published late Friday, the Chargers have come to an agreement with the Los Angeles Rams "in principle" regarding a shared stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

UPDATE, 5:45 p.m.: Chargers owner Dean Spanos released a statement indicating that he won't move the team for the 2016 season. Spanos admitted the team has an "option" in L.A., but said that his focus remains in San Diego.

With the agreement in place, the Chargers can now make the move to Los Angeles. More from Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune:

"The next step is for Chargers chairman Dean Spanos to announce his decision about whether he will give his adopted hometown another try. Two sources indicated Friday that announcement is imminent, but they did not provide specifics."

Earlier this month, the league's 32 owners voted to allow the Rams to relocate from St. Louis to Los Angeles, including in their decision an expiring opportunity for the Chargers to join them - Spanos has until January 15, 2017 to exercise the option.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that talks between the two sides have been "ongoing and productive" and that Spanos is set to make a final determination on whether the move the Chargers now or defer until 2017 "shortly."
