Jamie Dornan is only a few weeks away from stepping into the shoes of every girl's fantasy man. The actor was cast as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson was picked to play Anastasia Steele in the film adaption of E.L. James' best-selling novel "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Even though he wasn't a first pick he told Entertainment Weekly that he was exited for the role and was thrilled when the opportunity was presented to him. Dornan said he initially auditioned for the role of the dominating billionaire on tape but never made it through the first round of the casting process. Instead he was beat out by "Sons of Anarchy " star Charlie Hunnam.

"I certainly don't fear it," he said. "I already got a glimpse into working with [director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson] at the test, and I'd met Dakota [Johnson] by then. So I had a glimpse into how I felt it would be I got the part. None of it scared me."

However, a little over a month after the casting announcement was made Hunnam abruptly quit the movie blaming his busy TV schedule. Once again James and the studios started the process of recasting the lead male role and Dornan finally progressed to a face-to-face meeting.

"You know, one door closes, another opens," he said. "When he dropped out, I didn't instantly think, 'Oh here we go, maybe I should cancel that holiday,' but I did feel that maybe we'd revisit the idea of me."

Universal Pictures and Focus Features flew the actor out to Los Angeles for "an intense, one-day long audition opposite Dakota Johnson," EW reports. Dornan said they reenacted the initial interview when Ana meets Christian for the first time in his Seattle office, "followed by the climactic scene near the end of the book."

"There's quite a lot going on in both scenes," he said. "The interview scene is sort of a condensed version of the journey that the two of them go on. There are so many layers in it. It's a beast."
